ERIN GO BRAGH

SONGS FROM THE BALCONY

A three song medley, firstly "Erin-Go-Bragh", the story of a Highlander being mistaken for an Irishman whilst in Edinburgh. A multi-levelled narrative that flags up racism against the Irish as well as the gulf between Highlanders and the southern half of Scotland.

"Hal n Tow" is traditionally a part of May celebrations to welcome the turn of the seasons. With roots in superstition the song would accompany a snake like dance through the town.

"Painting Box". Released as a single to support the release of ISB's second album "The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion." Though the album did reach the top 30 in the UK the single failed to chart. None the less it's a classic bit of folk revival and it's a delight to revisit it in this medley.
